Ahoy Ikea!

City-Kid Review:

I like the balls, the ferry and the big clog.

I know, one doesn’t think of a trip to IKEA as being a fun day out but in New York City, it is. Our city-kid adventure began when we caught the water taxi from Pier 11- slip A- and sailed across the river to Brooklyn. The boat drops you right at the harbor next to IKEA. There are seats and a nice pier to run around, if it is not too hot. Remnants from when it was an actual port – a la View From a Bridge days – remain, which were fascinating to City-Kid.

Once inside IKEA, they have Smaland. I, honestly, don’t know why other big box stores do not do this. Smaland is a fun children’s play room, with a ball pit, a raised area with fun IKEA toys, play things along with a giant clog. Certainly, whomever designed it has a sense of humor! Lila was very excited to declare she had climbed ‘into the boot, three times.’

It was great to know our City Kid was having a fun time while we whizzed around and did our shopping. They have a 30minute time limit at the weekends. This changes according to the day and customer business. I was just there for Veterans Day when they had a 45min limit.  Whatever the time limit, it forces me to be time-efficient and methodical – a great challenge in Ikea. It works!

On the way back, the ferry stopped at Fairway. It is fun to eat out on their back dock and pick up the ferry when it comes. I asked on the boat, and she said you can still get on board with your IKEA receipt. The ferry is free with an IKEA receipt of $10 or more.

This sounds so cool…even without children. Thanks for letting me know this exists!

Always loved bringing Caleb to Ikea. He had a blast in the ball room, and then devoured a million Swedish meatballs!!
