City-Kid Review:

Come into the ball pit with me. Wheeeeeeeee!
Can we go again?

City Kid and Dad stumbled on this truly fun pop-up on an afternoon in mid-town. I had just finished acting in a play reading a couple of blocks away, so we met up. City Kid was so excited about the experience, I had to go there and experience it for myself. It definitely lived up to the hype.

A ball pit for grownups as well as kids. I now understand their appeal – they are super fun. It took me a while to get the hang of it and then it really brought out my own inner City Kid. The ball pit is all white and surrounded by a winter wonderland theme, including elves and flying snow which bursts out in flurries between two planes of glass at the window. I could really lose myself in there once I relaxed into it.

That is the main attraction for kids although there are plenty of other fun things going on, including virtual reality goggles (not for little kids), a couple of really fun photo booths and an entire sound/media scape involving ‘hey google’ abilities. One sound booth included a call with Santa which was so much fun. City Kid told Santa three favorite things and Santa crafted them into a song. All in the Holiday spirit.

Parked on the street outside is a google van giving out free hot chocolate. How perfect!

Need to Knows:

The New York pop-up is on the corner of 5th Avenue and 16th Street. I think the store ‘Bébé’ used to be located there.

Cost: free

Times: 1oam-8pm. Earlier in the day is less crowded.
Please note the entire thing closes up shop on December 31st. Catch it while you can!

Top-Tip

Eataly is not to far north on 23rd and 5th, for delicious food and drinks. There is, also, a branch of Indikitch on 23rd next to Eataly. Check out their Onion bhaji bites – almost like home! Closer to the pop-up is the City Bakery, at 3 West 18th Street, if you would like something delicious and sweet to go with your hot chocolate. If the line of the google van is too long, City Bakery makes a pretty mean hot chocolate of their own – check out their chocolate fountain.

For younger kids, there is a playground in Madison Square Park at 24th street, and you can check out the ‘White Out’ art installation as well.

Did you make it to the google pop-up? What was your favorite thing? Are there any other pop-ups you can recommend? Please share with us, below.

Go for it! It is totally worth it. I mean, how often do grown ups get to go into the ball pit? But go soon, because it closes at the end of the year.
