Tony Nominated Theatre….for KIDS!
City-Kid Review:
I like it! It’s fun.
You know when you plan to be oh-so-organized and it doesn’t happen? When you think, ‘I’ll sign up for that in November,’ when it is January, and then suddenly it’s next January and you completely missed November?
That was me and the Tribeca Performing Arts at BMCC.
But do you know what?
It didn’t matter.
Our good friend, Esther, first introduced us to Tribeca Performing Arts at BMCC. She had extra, unused tickets for the season and invited us all along for the production of the Tony Nominated play, A Year with Frog and Toad. It was great. It was fantastic. How wonderful, I must sign up at the beginning of the next season, which is, of course, what I forgot to do.
Then, this weekend, it magically popped into my head, again. Was I too late? What? There was a show on today? Wait, what?
In two hours??
Could I…was it really possible…to make this happen?
I mean, there were so many moving parts – purchasing the tickets, the subway running on a Saturday service, leave alone the idea of getting City Kid dressed and out of the house in anything like enough time.
City Kid said ‘yes, I want to go.’
So, I picked up the phone, full of doubt, got through to a person almost immediately (ticket sales will do that) purchased the ten pack, reserved to seats for that day, dressed, out the door, on the train, bam, we were there.
We did it!
The theatre is spacious and comfortable, so it is a ton of fun, and the productions I have seen, so far, have been excellent.
And there are still enough performances left to justify the pre-pay deal. I’m excited.
Need to Knows:
The children’s performances happen once a month – ish – from November through to May. There are about six shows this season and I think that is standard. The productions, this season, serve audiences ranging from 3-8. Some are 3-10. Plus their grown ups, of course.
Location: In the auditorium at BMCC, which is located at 199 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10007.
The pre-buy ticket scheme I mentioned is called 10Club. You pay $120 for the pre-purchase of ten tickets for any of the shows in the season. If you purchase tickets for a single show it costs $30, so this a good deal. There are no additional hidden charges, no ‘service fees’, no ‘processing fees’ – you get the picture. I must say it is refreshing to just pay the asking price of $120 and that be the amount you pay.
You do need to keep a track of your tickets, I imagine, and you call up and reserve tickets for whichever show you would like to see until all of your ten tickets have been used up. You can find out more about the season, here.
Top-Tip
There is a children’s playground next door to the entrance walkway of BMCC so on a nice day your City Kids can play there before or afterwards.
There is a really great Wholefoods a block south on Greenwich street. Just turn left once you reach the sidewalk outside of the theatre, take a right, walk south one block and it is right there on the right. They have an eating area upstairs with a small children’s play area. Oh! If you just want a couple of things and a hot beverage, you can take your goods to the cafe to the right of the checkouts for speedier service. There is, also, a bathroom opposite that cafe – with a city kid, it is always good to know where a bathroom is!
Now I’d love to hear from you…
