Yes, the Dinosaurs are Real.

City-Kid Review:

(Singing along)
The mighty T-Rex,
the mighty T-Rex,

No-one forgets…
the Mighty T-Rex!

It’s official…my tastes and priorities have changed since becoming a mom. A park filled with life-sized, moving dinosaurs would never have previously been on my to-do list. Now, it’s a destination of choice.

Field Station: Dinosaurs is so much fun.

They have created a truly fun experience, starting from when you are about to enter, ticket in hand, you immediately become a paleontologist, scientist and dinosaur detective. You are given a passport of things to do, see and discover and there is a prize when you have completed them. All of the staff are dressed in khakis pants and vests, some with panama hats and they are all super happy and enthusiastic about dinosaurs.  The different exhibits are laid out in the form of field station tents, as if we have all camped out on a dinosaur safari.

There are science talks delivered with animated gusto along with history and paleontology, wholeheartedly shared with props and upbeat energy, or sung about. Why not? Our City Kid still yells Eureka! when the bath water rises upon entry and that was learned from an ebullient science teacher at this Dinosaur Park.

One of the ‘things to do’ is attend the Dinosaur Show. I was skeptical but completely won over by the enthusiasm of the singer, the MC and, of course, the guest star….a T-Rex! Everyone loved it.

Need to Knows:

Location: Overpeck County Park
Henry Hoebel Section
Fort Lee Road
Leonia, NJ  07605

Yes, it’s over the GWB. We went on a weekend so took the the 166 bus from 42nd street. You can also go up to the port authority terminal at the GWB terminal and get the M4 jitney out there. If you have a car, it’s a short hop over the GWB. Here is a link to the location.

Cost: They have different prices online and in person. In advance, online it is $15.50 BUT there is a $3.50 ‘admission fee’.  In person at the box office, it is $16.75 plus tax. Under 2 years olds are free.  They have various add-ons you can chose to pay extra for, but we were fine with the basics. There is plenty to do.

Hours: 10am-6pm Saturdays and Sundays until May 26th-June 24th, and Memorial Day.
June 26th-September 2nd, open Tuesday-Sunday. Also, July 4th and Labor Day.
From September 22nd- November 11th, open Saturdays and Sundays.

They are open rain or shine. We went on a drizzly, rainy day and still had fun.

Food Situation: They have a cafe in the middle of the Field Station, serving standard American food (burgers, fries, ice cream, etc) You can bring your own food, also.

Information correct at time of writing.

Top-Tip

Check out Groupon. They often have discounted tickets for the Field Station: Dinosaurs, particularly at the beginning of the season.
