17 Reasons to Love Domino Park

At the beginning of June, a brand new waterfront park opened in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn called Domino Park.
Domino Park is a 5-acre public park built on what was once the Domino Sugar Factory. Developers will be adding five new residential/office buildings, on the site, persevering one historical brick building from the factory (so maybe they gave us the park first to helps us deal with all the construction and growing pains up ahead)
The park itself is inspired by the historic sugar factory and you can find tons of artifacts throughout the park like the cranes, the huge screws, and syrup tanks.
The park has something for all ages and even dogs. There are bocce and volleyball courts, a dog run, lawn space, tables, a food stand, an elevated walkway, unique seating, panoramic waterfront views, but the three areas that attract our kids the most are the playground, the fountain that lights up, and the fog bridge.
The playground is a replica of the sugar refinery process! It is truly a one-of-a-kind playground with so many different types of play structures and challenging obstacles. Part of the structure is intended for older children and part for younger children. This isn’t the type of playground that you can follow and guide your small child in and on, it’s the type of playground your child can get lost and immersed in. So make sure your child is old enough and independent before you try it out!
The water feature is another family hot spot, with step seating around it. Be sure to check Domino Park’s Instagram before heading to the park, they do shut the fountain down occasionally for maintenance. The backdrop views are amazing on both sides of the fountain—Manhattan Skyline/Williamsburg Bridge on one side and the historic brick sugar factory building on the other.
My kids also really love the fog bridge. Every so often the misters under the bridge come on and surround you in fog!
Williamsburg really needed (and still needs) more park space and Domino Park is a welcome addition!
Need to Knows:
-Ways to get to the park:
· The park is in between two ferry stops on the East River Route—South Williamsburg and North Williamsburg.
· JMZ Marcy Ave stop (.7 mile walk)
· L Bedford Ave stop (.8 mile walk)
· Walk/Bike over the Williamsburg Bridge
-There are trailer-style bathrooms and the park staff seems to be doing a good job keeping them clean.
-There is an on-site restaurant, Tacocina.
Information correct at time of writing.
Top-Tip
-If the line at Tacocina is too long, there is a Fornino Pizza on Kent Ave!
-If you want to do some more exploring nearby, go across the street and check out North Brooklyn Farms, which is open and free to the public (unless there is an event). Connected to North Brooklyn Farms is Velosolutions Pumptrack, a bumpy track for bikers and skaters! It’s really fun to watch them and if you want, you can give it a try!
Beside Domino Park is the teeny-tiny Grand Ferry Park (not a NYC Ferry stop).
-Be cautious when crossing Kent Avenue’s protected bike lane.
-Come during the week if you can to avoid the crowds.
