Central Park Conservatory Gardens
City-Kid Review:
Action: Runs. Stops to look in the fountain. Runs. Stops under a flowering tree. Smiles.
This, mostly quiet nook of Central Park, is known mostly to locals and wedding photographers.
Hands down, Springtime is the most beautiful time to visit the only formal garden in Central Park. In peak season, it is breathtaking in its blooming splendor. The grand old flowering magnolias, the colonnades of crab apple trees, the star magnolia trees, the enormous wisteria terrace. I am very grateful to the visionaries who planted all of these trees, over a hundred years ago.
The garden is divided into three sections – French at the north end, Italian in the middle and English at the southern end.
It is a wonderful opportunity for City Kids to see Nature at her most glorious.
The Conservatory Garden is gorgeous all year round, and now is the perfect time to visit.
Need to Knows:
Cost: Free
Location: Central Park, just off 5th Avenue, between 104-106th streets.
You can enter from the north, the south and in the center, directly from 5th Avenue, through the magnificent Vanderbilt gate.
A wonderful place to sit and eat lunch.
Top-Tip
There is a little Maoz food kiosk, just north of the Conservatory gardens. They serve falafals, fries, salads and smoothies.
